Exemplar Genetics, an Iowa-based company, that was started in 2008 and is dedicated to the development of clinically relevant large animal models for chronic human diseases for which there is currently a lack (or lack of satisfactory) treatment options. Exemplar Genetics capitalizes on the amazing anatomical, physiologic, biochemical and histological similarities between pigs and humans as well as expertise in specific gene modification to deliver a reliable model of human disease. Exemplar Genetics has been successful in commercializing its SBIR-funded research and has contributed to the local economy by creating over 20 new jobs since its inception.
